The Appaloosa horses during the Ice Age

We usually associate the Appaloosa to the Old West and some Indian tribes, but the relationship with the men goes too much back.
Spotted horses roamed the earth since prehistoric times, when man lived in caves during the ice age.
Images of spotted horses on caves’ walls can be found in many caves throughout Europe.

The most important example is the Pech-Merle Cave, France in the French town of Cabrerets, in the Midi-Pyrenees region, where several horses are represented by the leopard coat.

Over 20,000 years ago, prehistorical artists have painted this graffiti to wish success in hunting and plenty of food.
